Authors include the archaeologist Kathleen Kenyon ; "the Bordeaux Pilgrim" (AD 332) ; "St Silvia of Aquitaine" (AD 385), whom scholars now recognize to be the Galician nun Egeria ; Muslim travellers including al-Muqaddasi (AD 972) and Evliya Çelebi (1648) ; a Jewish rabbi (Benjamin of Tudela, 1187) and many more Western pilgrims and travellers, including Flaubert (1849), Mark Twain (1869), Karl Marx (1854) and TE Lawrence (1918). Noteworthy among Orthodox pilgrims is the Russian Grigorii Rasputin (1911).
