Blaye is situated on the Paris / Tours route, where pilgrims crossed the Gironde by ferry. It is famed for being the burial place of Roland. Among its Seigneurs was the troubadour Jaufré Rudel, who, smitten with love for the Countess of Tripoli, went to woo her in the Holy Land, and died there. Includes much on Roncesvalles, the Crusades, and the poetry of Rudel. Contains many facsimiles of manuscripts.
